As a Mom, I really appreciate it when a company can skilfully combine electronics with educational activities. For the last decade, I have enjoyed having the opportunity to allow my children to play with LeapFrog electronics, and have continued to be pleased with the quality and value. It's a little disappointing that some of the earlier products, most notably the twisting math and spelling facts (Twist and Shout Spelling, Twist and Shout Math) have gone by the wayside, but there are some great products that have been developed, as well.
Tag is an early learning reading system, which allows young children to practice their reading skills by pointing a stylus at words on the page of a book. Cartridges accompany books, plugging into the reader so that the mechanism identifies which story is being read. The precursot to the Tag reading system was the Leap Pad, which my older children were able to enjoy. Additional books to accompany Tag are available, many with familiar, popular characters.
Leapster has been a fast favorite, and my now tween children started out with Leapster, before they were old enough for more intricate video game systems. I much prefer the educational value of Leapster games to the handheld gaming systems. My youngest children now enjoy the Leapster, and I like the use of a stylus, in addition to buttons. The kids are prime for modern technology, but the pursuit isn't meaningless junk.
